What is Sukiyaki?
Generally sukiyaki is a winter dish and it is commonly found at bōnenkai, Japanese year-end parties. Thinly sliced beef is usually used for sukiyaki, although in the past, in certain parts of the country (notably Hokkaidō and Niigata) pork was also popular. Popular ingredients cooked with the beef are: Tofu (usually seared firm tofu).
How to cook Sukiyaki steak?
In the pan with the scallions, add the sliced beef. Sear the beef for 10 seconds, and add a drizzle of your sukiyaki sauce. Fry the meat until it just begins to brown––it should still be a bit pink.
Does Sukiyaki taste better with or without raw egg?
I think that sukiyaki is delicious even without raw egg. But it is true that sukiyaki is yummier if you dip it in raw egg. One of the most popular Japanese hot pot dishes, sukiyaki (すき焼き) is great for get-togethers with friends and family.
Why do people dip their eggs in sukiyaki?
Apparently one reason is that the egg lowers the temperature of the cooked piece of meat or vegetables so that you won’t burn your tongue! Another reason is that by dipping the cooked sukiyaki in raw egg, it enhances the flavours. I sometimes don’t use raw egg to eat sukiyaki.
